In addition to the hundreds of books available in the catalog that can help you with cover letters, resumes, interviews, and job hunting, all JMRL branches also have public computers available with internet access and Microsoft Word.
At Central Library and Greene County Library, you can make an appointment to sit down with a library staff member one-on-one and get help with resumes, cover letters or searching for a job. Appointments usually last about 45 minutes to an hour. To make the most of your time, compile all of your background and previous employer information and have it ready to go when you meet with the staff member.
Michael Barnes from the Virginia Employment Commission also visits Greene County Library on the last Thursday of every month from 1 to 4 p.m. specifically to help veterans find employment. It is recommended that you contact the library to sign up, or contact Michael Barnes directly at 434-951-6440 or Michael.firstname.lastname@example.org.
Later this year, Central Library will have a career center that will be staffed with a full-time coordinator to help you with any of your job-search needs.
If you’re looking for websites to use to find a job, visit jmrl.org/on-links.htm and check out the links available under “Employment.” You can also visit jmrl.org/on-ref-jobsearch.htm for a list of local employers and job listings.
If you prefer to browse the shelves, try call number 650.14 for help with resumes, cover letters and interviewing, or 331.702 for information on different occupations.
Any time you’re looking for employment, consider stopping by a JMRL branch to see what the staff can do for you. Good luck on your search!
