JMRL has added two more “fit kits” to the health library collection!
Kit 7 consists of a light therapy lamp and the book The Short Circuit: Depression and Anxiety Exposed for What It Really Is: A Brand New and Inspiring Way of Looking at Depression and Anxiety by Dr Shammy Noor. Light therapy is one of the treatments for seasonal affective disorder (SAD), which is a type of seasonal depression that usually strikes during the winter months. Studies have suggested that exposure to bright light from a special lamp can help make up for the sunlight you’re not getting naturally when the days are shorter.
Kit 8 has 5 resistance bands, the book Fitness Sutra by Dr. Monika Chopra, guide sheets, and 10 exercise cards. Resistance bands can be used to perform exercises for every major muscle group or to challenge your existing routine. You can also use resistance bands to increase your range of motion, flexibility, and muscular endurance.
Place a hold for either of these kits here. You can also call the Central Reference Department at 434.979.7151 ext. 4 with any questions, or send them an email.
Your library is here to help you with your health information needs! Our library staff can help you identify local resources to address your health needs.
JMRL can help you with access to technology. There’s free wi-fi and computers available at all of our branches. (Did you know that health information is the 2nd most popular online search category?)
JMRL staff can also tell you about the Special Enrollment Period on the Insurance Marketplace. A Special Enrollment Period is a time when you can sign up for health insurance through HealthCare.gov. You only get a Special Enrollment Period if you lose your insurance or experience a major life change. If you lose your insurance, such as through a work lay-off or turning 26 and aging off your parent’s plan, you have 60 days before or after your coverage ends to enroll on HealthCare.gov. If you experience a major life change, you have 60 days after the event to enroll in a health plan.
Some of the most common major life changes include:
- Moving to a new zip code or county
- Getting married or divorced
- Having a baby, adopting, or becoming a foster parent
- Becoming a U.S. citizen or getting a green card
To apply for a Special Enrollment Period visit HealthCare.gov and follow instructions to see if you can enroll for 2019 coverage. You can also call HealthCare.gov at 1-800-318-2596. (TTY 1-855-889-4325). Visit your local library branch if you need internet access to find out if you qualify for the special enrollment period.
